Respectfully, I don't understand why it matters enough to create another list. Why force people to join two different communities when this one is working perfectly serving both needs?

I have to agree, also respectfully. I realize this is your comm and you have your own vision of it but I never understood why it was limited to just a specific fic that someone was looking for. I guess I just don't get why it matters. It seems to work really well both specifically and generically, so... In any case, I did join the new comm coz the last few posts asking for certain types of fics netted me quite a number of 'new' fics for my 'to read' list, which always makes me happy :)

It seemed more and more folks were requesting recs, as opposed to looking for something specific. And to be honest, it says in the userinfo that this isn't a community for recs....it's for seeking out specific things you've seen/read etc. in the past.

Nobody's goal was to force members into joining a second community.....I really hope that isn't what you all think we're trying to do.

Like I also said in my response to the comment above....it seemed there was a need for two different communities. Each comm. will serve it's own specific purpose, if that makes sense.

Most folks joined THIS community based on the premise that you could ask about specific fics/art/graphics/etc and hopefully someone else had heard of it and could help you re-find. As time wore on, we kept getting more and more rec requests. It just seemed like a community specificaly for recs (in general) would also be enjoyed.

Either way, I'm glad you're finding some new things to enjoy!

IMO, One community that serves both needs *is* streamlined and it works *perfectly*! Kudos to you for setting it up, but I hope someday you'll revise the policy because I *adored* that this place was one-stop-shopping for knowledge of all things Spike related regardless of which it is a specific fic or a type of fic.

I actually talked with quite a few people about the possibilty of either changing the guidelines to also allow req requests or just making a seperate community. Every person I talked to said they would prefer a second comm, so that is the direction we went. We'll see how it all plays out....but I think the rec comm will be very popular as well. I think there are already more than 20 members!

Hehe....actually this community is also for anything from "Buffy" and "Angel" as well. The name might throw some people off, but as per the userinfo, you can certainly look for non-Spike items. :)

As for flooding flists....that is also also something that I was wanting to avoid for this community as well. As I said, I created this LJ for a specific purpose. And it seemed like a lot of folks were using it for a different reason...ergo the second community.

This decision has been brewing for a while. I'm sorry if a community for just recs might not seem like a good idea for you. Buuuuut, our userinfo does state that this is a place to look for specifics. So if anyone has joined with the intent of ONLY asking for general recs, they were basically disregarding the guidelines that we've had in place since day one.

I joined the day you announce the community having read the requirements at the time primarily because I've been reading Spuffy fic for 7 years and thought I could help. I turned out that I got more than I gave from the community as more and more fics were sought that I hadn't read. As the community went on some people asked for general recs instead of for specific fics and either I could help or I discovered another fic I had yet to enjoy.

The number of requests has never been more than one or two per day and that volume never bothered me.

I'm surprised that there *were* people it bothered. I'm saddened that you won't even consider opening up the guidelines to all requests because I felt that the list had been doing a great job lately helping people find what they were looking for or helping lurkers just find new fics that others had asked for. I wish you'd ask the desires of the whole community before pigeonholing it.

However, this is not my community so I'll abide by your wishes. I'm just saddened by them.

I'm not really sure what else to say here. I'm sorry that you are dissapointed by the change. And like I said in an earlier comment, if things need to change and/or the new community doesn't work out, changing things here is something we'll have to take a look at.

I don't really think there is any pigeonholing at work here. You said you don't want to see your flist bombarded with rec requests for things not Spike-related. However, if we let people start asking for recs, that exact thing could potentially happen here. Like I mentioned, this commnity is for fics/art/etc for the *entire* Buffyverse, not just Spike (despite the Spike-centric name). Sure, he's my favorite character, but this community exists for all of the other characters as well.

I guess what I'm saying is....I'm sorry that you aren't pleased, but I'm glad you are sticking around. :)

Alright, although Copy had done a nice job of handling this, I have to put my two cents in.

Copy and I felt that we needed the other community because of recent posts and from talking to other people within the fandom. We aren't trying to force anyone to join the second community, we are simply leaving it as an option for those wanting to find recs.

When Copy started this com, it was with the intention of people being able to find fics or art that they had remember seeing, but not who had made it or where they could find it. We talked together and with other and felt that a second com would be a great idea when we started to get rec posts. I'm sorry that you feel it's counter-productive and we are in no way forcing you to sign up, but I don't think it makes that big of a difference. Whether the posts are in the new com or in here, they are still going to be on your flist.

seeking_spike will remain 'pure' & uncluttered...*grinning* It's likely my favourite community--I find something new every day. And I've just nipped over to join the new site, as well. Thanks so much for starting it :)

Thanks sweetie! That was what we hope to achieve! We want to keep SS purely for finding those fics that you remember vividly but for the life of you can't remember who wrote it. Where as this new community if for any recs.

Well, I'm interested in both specific requests and general recommendation requests, so it works well for me. I always figured before that there would be people who saw that this comm for was specific fics only, and wouldn't post their general recommendation requests. Now, they've got somewhere to do it.
