seeking_spike | A sort of reverse fanfic search

Recently, I went through the fic I have stored on my hard drive and sorted out the ones that hadn't already been placed in Author subdirectories, and I was left with a few that have no author listed (in some cases, there's no title either). So, I figured I'd come here, see if anyone recognizes the stories in question and can give me a heads up on who might have written them!

First up: "It's All In Your Head" -- saved to my hard drive in January 2001. No author listed, but it's written in script format (I don't believe it's by Keren and Meredith, either).

It has to be Season Five, because Dawn is present... The Scooby Gang and Spike are at the Magic Box when they're confronted by an old man who casts a spell on them, causing them to act on buried impulses (or something like that): Giles keeps telling Xander how funny he is, Spike ends up trying to eat everything in Xander's fridge, Willow keeps slapping Xander, Buffy keeps insulting Xander, etc. It turns out the old man was the grandfather of one of the zombie jocks from "The Zeppo" and he was trying to get Xander killed by turning his friends against him. At the end, the spell is broken and everything returns to normal... except something is up with Spike -- he can touch crosses for a few seconds before they hurt and he can occasionally catch glimpses of himself in the mirror. Obviously, things were being set up for a sequel (which I would love to find, if it exists). Any ideas who might have written that one?

ANYA
Giles, Buffy is making us lose customers.

Giles looks around. The shop is full.

GILES
I think we can take the financial loss.

ANYA
But she’s all punchy and grunty and I can smell her sweating.
(off of look)
I have a very sensitive nose.

Bell rings as Xander, TARA, and WILLOW enter the shop.

XANDER
(giving Anya a kiss over the counter)
How’s business, Shopkeeper.

GILES
Despite Buffy’s constant sweating, it seems to be quite brusque.

WILLOW
Well, that is a tad insensitive.

ANYA
(smiles sweetly)
I thought so.

Giles gives a look and says nothing.

And one more for right now...

The file name is "The Awakening" but the story lists the title as "All in His Mind" (this may be the chapter title). I also saved this one to my hard drive in January 2001.

It takes place in Season Five and has Spike quizzing Harmony on what she saw when the surgeon was working on his brain in "Out of My Mind," figuring out that there's actually no chip in his head and all the pain has been coming from conditioning he received from the Initiative. Spike employs a hypnotist named Madame Isis to help 'de-condition' him and it works... mostly. He still has pain, but it's delayed and not as bad... supposedly it will get better as he works on fighting the conditioning. While looking for humans to fight, he ends up saving a woman who was being attacked by a thug. This one is also obviously part of a series or a potential series.

And, some sample text from the fic, in case it helps ring some bells:

Leaves crunched satisfyingly under his boots as he walked through the graveyard. A sickle moon cast wan light on pale marble slabs, cold emblems of once warm lives. His cigarette glowed brightly for an instant as he took a last drag then tossed away the butt in a little arc of red.

He had just come from the library. Making sure that no one saw him enter of course. Wouldn't want to ruin his reputation. The book clutched in his hand was large and had an appropriately large title: The Anatomical Cerebral Cortex and It's Functional Correlates. Bloody hell, couldn't they write in English, he complained to himself. Luckily he knew Latin. He'd had a classical education albeit he hadn't used it recently. But once upon a time he knew a thing or two. And he'd been studying. They weren't the only ones who could do a little research.
