First the good news... it's definitely ringing a bell. Now, the possibly bad news (at least for tracking down a specific fic): There was actually a fanfic challenge for that very scenario out at Carnal Sins. And even more bad news, Carnal Sins is no longer online.

Okay, so... looking through the fic I have saved to my hard drive, so far I've found "Blinded by the Light" (http://www.4dw.net/dmarkedlove/blinded.html) by Hilary (hils) and Python Chick. I know I've probably got more, and I'll keep looking... unless that one turns out to be the one you were looking for! :-)

There is an even older one, which I cant find, but in this one Spike is not helped and he goes off to LA where he gets a job and a new girlfriend, I wouldn't mind reading this so if anyone knows where it is?
