Spuffy Amnesia

Alright, I'm getting desperate. I remember spending forever looking for this fic and never finding it months ago, then being distracted. Now I remember it, I'm falling back into the same frenzy of trying to find it, so I'm posting this bit again. I am looking for two stories that are very similar but I would be happy just to find one of them! Simply put, Buffy and Spike are working together in both. Buffy gets total amnesia, not just a few years but her whole life is gone, she can't remember anything. Spike is the one with her at the time or when she wakes up. He convinces her that they are married or newlyweds and they leave town before anyone could tell Buffy differently. I keep mixing up details so I won't put any more in there, but any fic with this premise I know I'd enjoy, whether Spike is being sweet and wonderful or a lascivious fiend. Please recognize it, somebody!

Oh--I just wanted to add, another Buffy-has-amnesia Spuffy story that's quite wonderful is Recognition, (http://www.nothinglikethesun.com/Other-Fics/Recognition.shtml) by Julbie. An imagining of Buffy's return after "The Gift," written in script format. I don't care for script format usually, but this one's really good. Probably PG.

I think I know which fic you're looking for (at least one of them), but I'm drawing an absolute blank on the title and author. It's an older fic... and I can tell you it's not by Saber Shadowkitten, Lisa Drexel, Chelle Storey or Sandra S, but I'm pretty sure it's from that same era of fic writers (which is why I checked them first). I'll keep picking through the stuff I've got archived on my hard drive and see if I can track it down.

Lynn's 'Secrets & Lies' and it's prequels - 'Hell on Wheels', 'Desperate Measures' and 'Reflections in the Light of Day'. (This is probably my favorite fic of all time.) This series is also known as 'The Chains Series'.

I see so many other writers there that are worth checking out, but some of my favorite stories by them aren't linked. :-(

One thing you have to keep in mind with all of these older stories, though, is that they were written during the second, third, or fourth seasons, and that's reflected in the characterization--especially Spike's, as he'd only appeared in a handful of episodes when a lot of this fic was written.

Rabid told me just this morning that she's toying with the idea of finishing one of her Spuffy WIPs, Ichnobate. This would be after she finishes a couple of Dr. Who fics. I beta'd for Rabid for awhile and still describe her as one of the best writers for doing action scenes I've ever come across in fandom.

And, oh man, Miranda! One of my very favorites. Her stories read like eps and she used the entire cast so, so well.

I so need to re-read me some Classic Buffy/Spike.

You know what I've always wondered about? Back in 2001 or 2002 Jericho mentioned on her website that she would be posting the last chapter of "Haunt of the House" after the weekend...and never posted another word about it, as far as I can tell. I understand not having the inspiration/time/inclination to finish a WIP, but if you're pretty much done with the last chapter...wha?

And the story I was thinking of that fit o_bugger's description was by Shoshanna! (Although possibly a different Shoshanna.) It's "Honeymoon in Vegas" (http://www.impisheyes.com/hiv.html).

I'd also add another thing for people to keep in mind if they're reading these older stories for the first time: some of them were written at a time when not only did we not know as much about the characters, we also didn't know as much about the universe... so fanfic writers would make up a lot of stuff or borrow from various other vampire mythos in order to fill in the blanks (which doesn't mean they're not worth reading, just that they'll be a bit different).

All the ones you've recommended are great... although I'd add hlynn's fic (http://members.aol.com/hlynn28/creative/btvs.html), Elizabeth's "Achilles Heel" (which, sadly, no longer appears to be online anywhere... if anyone is interested, I have a copy I could share) and Whitewolf Alpha's "Second Chances" and "Choices" (also apparently gone from the net, but I can also share).

I recommended (well raved about, but who's keeping track) Secrets and Lies to a friend once and she couldn't get into it because she thought the characterizations were so off. She had had problems with some of Saber's stuff prior to that for the same reason.

Maybe for people who came into the fandom later, when Spike was a more established character and we knew more of his history, those early stories seem like they come from a different fandom altogether.

If they do, it's a fandom I still love and miss. :-)

Check out above! Lisa's hard to keep track of, because she had a number of sites and most of them are gone know. If I were you I'd grab her stuff and burn it to a CD before this site goes poof.

I actually ran into her on a Hermione/Draco Yahoo group (don't judge me!) three or four years ago. She didn't seem opposed to writing more Spuffy, just without the drive to do it.

Ok, that's strange: the link from my post really doesn't work, but the one in my favorites does, even though thet are exactly the same!
