Alternate Reality
Jan. 3rd, 2009 11:14 pmI read this fiction somewhere around a year to a year and a half ago. What I remember (rather vaguely, I'm afraid): a very long story, the writing was gorgeous and the story line presented a sort of altered reality -- some sort of spell, I think, where the characters were separated from each other (a kind of amnesia?) and living out their lives with echoes of a past they don't quite remember, experiencing events that were variations on a theme of the events of the show that kept happening. I think someone, perhaps Spike?, eventually moves to start solving the problem. And now I may really be mixing this story with another one that involves an isolated house and a tree? And perhaps both Spike and Buffy are trying to make their way back to each other and actuality? Does a flower shop factor in? Maybe?
Wow, that's a sad description. You can see why I'm having such a hard time searching for this! What I do remember: being wowed by the writing, loving the way the story played with the events of the show in inventive and quite beautiful ways.
And I'm hating I never bookmarked this.

Date: 2009-01-05 05:40 pm (UTC)I'm still trying to dredge up bits and pieces of this story hoping to ring some bells with someone. I think the resolution of the story occurs at the isolated house, or near it. Perhaps something with a tree, and perhaps something with a pond? Something about Spike and Buffy having been spelled (or something like that) to live in two different realities and each feeling that there is something wrong with their reality, something missing that they can feel but not identify. (I think). And that at the end one of them finds the way to bring them back together into the same reality.
