Spike Buffy fic with Dawn opening portals

This one has been niggling at me for a while, but the annoying thing is that I can only remember the end. It was a fic I read years ago, might have been a completed fic with an unfinished sequel, or just an unfinished fic. Presumably after season 5 as they are finding out that Dawn still has key-like properties and can open portals - I have a feeling she opens one and ends up in a cupboard but that might be complete imagination on my part. Buffy and Spike are together.

The main bit I can remember which I think is right where it finished, is that Dawn has a boyfriend and Spike's warning her that they'd better not get up to anything in her room as he'd know from his sense of smell. Don't think the boyfriend's quite human,but they don't know that, and he's listening outside the window of Dawn's room. And there's possibly a mention of his grandmother.

It's quite possible I'm mixing up several fics here but if anyone has any ideas I'd appreciate it.

The last bit reminds me of 'acceptance' and 'man of the house' by slayerivy, but I don't remember dawn opening any portals.....

Hi! Yeah, I think some small details are being combined. However, I think menolly_23 was somewhat right? It's actually the second part of the Second Youth Series by Arie Dawn.

The part that confused me was Spike with the boyfriend and the 'non' human boyfriend...That's mixing some stories I think. One that I can think of, but is intensely deep and very angst written is Areanna_WhiteWolf's The Shadowed Souls Series. Though not finished, it does have Williams mother, and Joyce there. There is also a boy she is dating that isn't quite human named David. Unsure if Dawn uses her abilities in this one...so that's why I was thrown and leaned more towards the second part of Ariel Dawn's story of Second Youth.

If you check out Areanna_WhiteWolf's work keep in mind they are very deep, emotionally driven, and do have a tinge of darkness to them. Good stories, but read with major caution.

There is another story, but I vaguely remember it. I tried looking for it on SA offline site, and I just couldn't remember it. I thought it might have also been All4Spike's series story...but it's been awhile since I read it. Hope this helped some?

Thanks for all your thinking and input on this one. I agree, I'm probably mixing together bits from various different fics (I do have a tendency to do that *g*). The only reason I definitely know it's not Ariel_Dawn's story is that I haven't read that series - it's bookmarked but I only came across it recently, so it's not one I read way back when.

I'm pretty sure I read it on either SA or the original Vampire's Kiss archive. It's not All4Spike's either as I read that series fairly recently. Haven't read Areanna_WhiteWolf's fics, but they look interesting, so thank you for that, I'll definitely be checking them out.

Hopefully one day I'll be re-reading an old fic and it will be the one I've been searching for here.
