Can only remember one scene from this fic, which I'm sure is a fairly old one. Somehow Spike is human and after spending the night with Buffy wakes up with bruises all over his body which he tries to hide from her.

Ring any bells with anyone? *fingers crossed*

ETA: Found, thanks to some memory triggering from fenchurche. Fic is H Lynn's 'Ordinary World' and I re-discovered it at Sinister Attraction.

Ooo... I think I've read this one (or at least one with the same sort of scene in it), but I'm drawing a blank on the title. I'll do a search through the fic I've got saved, but hopefully someone else will be able to name it right off!

Okay, this is going to drive me crazy. I just did a search for "bruise" and "human" (which still returned nearly 500 stories... probably says a lot about the nature of BtVS fic!) and glanced through the titles, but nothing pinged as being the right one. Now I'm wracking my brain trying to see if I could remember anything else from it... like how he turned human. A wish? I don't think it was Mohra blood. It seems like it takes place after they'd started having sex in Season 6 and I don't think it was post-"Seeing Red" but I could be completely wrong about that. Have you remembered anything else about it, by any chance?

Oh, I'm sorry this is now causing you as much trouble as it has me (I've been trying to find it for it seems like forever *g*).

I haven't a clue how he turns human, but I too think it's after season 6 sex had started because it's not the first time they have had sex, just the first time with him human. Buffy doesn't take into account the fact that he's human and he knows how she will react when she sees the bruises. I think there's something to do with the mirror in the bathroom too.

Found it!! Your thought about it being in S6 but before Seeing Red got my mind working a bit and I went through Sinister Attraction's fics for S6 - and looked at any that mentioned human Spike,or different Spike.

Oh, and now I'm horribly embarrassed that I couldn't remember it! Heather is a friend of mine IRL (we first met online in X-Files fandom eons ago, but we get together with another group of friends at least once a year)! Not only that, but I just barely reread "Journey's End Lesson" last week!

Is it the one where he and Buffy go back to 1920s Egypt and he's somehow human and has to masquerade as her Watcher? And he wishes that they had established safe words when he was a vampire?

No, it's not that one (one of Mustang Sally's - Serious Moonlight maybe?) as I've re-read that one recently. The one I'm thinking of is (like Fenchurche has thought) Season Six ish, definitely in Buffy's bedroom and house.
