seeking_spike | (no subject)

It's hard to believe, as bad as I am about titles, that I haven't resorted to using this before for find a fic, but I think this is my first "help me" post.

I'm looking for a fic set well into the future. Buffy has raised and lost a daughter and has just seen her grandaughter off to college. Spike has been watching over her off and on all these years, without realizing just how much she missed him and how important he would have been to her. He had come back when the daughter was a toddler, seen her walking with Buffy and Xander, found that she was married to Xander and quietly disappeared without letting her know that he was there. I forget why he left or why he didn't come back for so long, but it's obviously AU as Sunnydale is still there and Buffy is still living in her mother's house. He has just made one of his trips through Sunnydale when he sees Buffy crying after the grandaughter leaves and he shows up at her back door. I'm not going to discribe the story any more because if someone recognizes it and can tell me what it is, you might want to read it also. Suffice to say that it's heartbreaking, even if does have a Spuffy ending. I had mentioned this fic on the BSV forum and someone asked me to find it for her, so I'm giving it a shot. Figured this is much more efficient that my prowling through archives and authors trying to remember where I found it the first time and what it was called.
